8 YA Books Perfect for the Beach

With spring break just around the corner for many, I figured it is high time I recommend some perfect beach reads! Whether you are traveling or having a chill stay-cation, it is the most relaxing thing in the world to read a witty, fun, and relatively short book to unwind after a couple of long, cold months!

Without further ado, I present the 7 best beach reads!

1: Little White Lies by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Sawyer Taft is a mechanic whose only concern is making enough money to get into college, and her chances of that aren’t looking too good. But when her estranged, incredibly wealthy grandmother suddenly shows up and offers Sawyer a deal, she can’t help but accept. In return for paying for her education, Sawyer moves into a mansion with family she had never met before to participate in debutante season, against her mother’s wishes. But it’s simple, introduce herself to high society for a bit, and then she’s off to college, paving a successful future for herself. What could go wrong? This book is a light hearted, soap opera vibe, fast read about scheming debutants and a sketchy politician– it’s perfect for the beach!

2: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Cadence is a member of the Sinclair family– beautiful, rich people who spend their summers on Beachwood Island. But after Cadence suffered a tragedy she does not remember, she’s having difficulty adjusting to summer on the island again. Her family is acting weird, buildings have changed, and her health is just getting worse. While this book is rather dark, it’s fast, written beautifully, and set on an island full of beautiful, broken people. I cannot think of a better book to absolutely destroy your emotions with on a sunny beach!

3: You Have a Match by Emma Lord

Abby was doing really well in school, up until her grandfather passed away. Since then her life as been a bit of a downward spiral. So when she signs up to do a DNA test with her friends, she isn’t too happy to find another complication in her life: she has a sister. And not just a half sister, a full blooded sister. The two meet up, and Savvy can’t be more unlike Abby. They are almost the exact opposite. Despite their differences the two decide to try becoming friends and attend the same summer camp. But camp is far from a dream come true… This book is cute, short, and gives all the perfect summer vibes, would definitely recommend you check it out!

4: Instant Karma by Marissa Meyer

Instant Karma is a newly published novel about Prudence and Quint. Prudence is a chronic overachiever with a strong hatred for Quint, who never seems to put any work into their joint science project. But Prudence begins seeing him in a new light when she volunteers at the animal rescues shelter his mom runs in an attempt to redo the science project. She is also suddenly given the power to seek karma (both good and bad) on those around her, but at its core, the book is a romance and not so fantasy. It’s a fast, romantic read perfect to enjoy at a sunny beach!

5: Heist Society by Ally Carter

Kat Bishop has finally left her family and life of crime behind. She does one final con, getting herself into a prestigious boarding and kisses the family goodbye. But the family isn’t quite done with her yet. Hale, her best friend, and her cousin, Gabrielle, intentionally get her kicked out of school because they have a big problem. Kat’s dad has been accused of stealing priceless paintings from a very dangerous man, and if they aren’t returned in a week, it’ll be the end of the line for Bobby Bishop. So Kat does what any good daughter would do: establish a crew of her own, hunt down the paintings, and pull off an epic heist in order to save her dad. This book is so much fun to read about and is the start of a trilogy all about Kat and her family of skilled thieves. A perfect lighthearted yet captivating book to enjoy beachside!

6: Tweet Cute by Emma Lord

Tweet Cute is an adorable contemporary book about Jack and Pepper, two high school students who both run the social media accounts for their family businesses respectively. But when Pepper’s fast food business is accused of stealing Jack’s famous grilled cheese recipe, a twitter war breaks out between the two companies. While the two are unknowingly attacking each other online, they are also chatting anonymously with an app Jack constructed. But what happens when they come clean to each other?

7: Geekerella by Ashley Poston

A Cinderella retelling, Elle Wittimer is obsessed with Starfield, a sci-fi series she watched with her late father. Darien Freeman is an actor who recently got the lead role in a reboot of the series, and Elle is not happy about it. She publishes a blog hating on Darien, while also texting and developing a friendship with a wrong number. Darien sees the blog, but is also the unknown number, texting Elle constantly. When the two accidently meet each other at a Starfield convention, they are far from who they were expecting the other to be. This is an adorable book filled with beloved tropes like falling in love with an anonymous person online, secret identities, and famous being longing for normality. Bonus points for also being a fairytale retelling!

8: I’d Tell You I Love You But Then I’d Have to Kill You by Ally Carter

Cammie Morgan attends the elite Gallagher Academy– a boarding school that supposedly provides the finest education to daughters of wealthy and respected people. While that’s half true, the Gallagher Academy is actually an undercover spy school. That cover cannot be broken, but when Cammie meets a boy her age in town, she’ll do anything to keep her new relationship a secret. But the Gallagher Academy has many dangerous secrets and foes just waiting and plotting their (and the world’s) downfall… This is the start of a 6 long book series all about Cammie and her friends. This is the most lighthearted of the series, all about Cammie and her first love. But as the series progresses, it gets darker and darker…
