June 2021 Reading Wrap Up

June was a pretty good reading month for me, I read a total of 8 books. It was nice to have the time that I typically spent in school free, so I am pretty happy with what I got read in June and am excited for the books that I plan to read in July!

Without further ado, let’s get into the wrap up!

1: The Sun is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

I actually considered doing a whole review for this book, but ended up not posting it. It was a good book and it only took me a day to read. I am not a big contemporary or lovey-dovey fan, so I did not expect to love this book, seeing as how it’s about two teenagers falling in love in one day, but it didn’t disappoint! I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t dislike it as much as I thought I would. 3 out of 5 stars!

2: One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus

I did a full review of this book for my last post, so go check that out here! To summarize my thoughts, the book was pretty good! I liked the characters and the plot, but at some points during the beginning and in the middle it was really slow and boring. The climax was also brief and anti-climatic, but still enjoyable. 4 out of 5 stars!

3: Caraval by Stephanie Garber

This book was great! I loved the characters and the plot twists. Especially at the end, nothing you thought was real was! It was fun to see the characters just be like “ooh, I was lying” and then two pages later going “actually, I was lying two pages ago and was telling the truth the whole time!” Lol I enjoyed the mystery and cannot wait to finish the series. 4 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

4: Legendary by Stephanine Garber

I didn’t like this book quite as much as the first one, but I still found it a very enjoyable read. I loved how despite Caraval being adamant that it’s just a game, this time it was very real. It was such a fun mystery and I have so many questions left unanswered and I need to read Finale ASAP!! 4 out of 5 stars!

5: The Gilded Ones by Namina Forna

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had high hopes going into it, but seeing how I don’t typically like books similar to this one, I wasn’t too sure I would like it. However, I absolutely devoured this book! I couldn’t get enough of it! I loved the characters and the world and the plot twist. It was perfect! However, there were some parts in the middle that were a little slow, but I still loved this book. 4 out of 5 stars!

6: The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson

I actually have a full review of this book coming, so stay tuned for that! To summarize, though, I loved this book! It wasn’t my favorite Truly Devious book, but still very enjoyable. I loved the characters (seriously, there will never be a character better than Nate, ever) and the mystery a lot! 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

7: All Fall Down by Ally Carter

I have read this book more times than I can count lol. I felt like rereading it, so I did! This book is one of my favorites, ever. I love the unique mystery, the hilarious characters, and the poor, unstable narrator. I will never shut up about this book lol. 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

8: All In by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

I finished this month out with one more reread, my favorite mystery ever. The Naturals series is hands down my favorite book series, with this book being my favorite. The mystery is just so, so, so good and just as satisfying and twisty as the first time I read it. 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Honorable mentions:

I confess to DNFing two books this month, both of which I plan on picking back up at some point, but I just wasn’t in the mood for them.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong: I was about 100 pages in when I set it down. I loved it so far, but it was slow and I was in the mood for something a little faster paced. But I fully plan on finishing this book, eventually.

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard: Again, I plan on finishing this book too. I am not the biggest fantasy fan, but this book just seemed so interesting that I had to pick it up (it was also 15% off at the bookstore. That certainly helped lol.) The beginning was slow and I was confused by the world, but despite that I do have high hopes I’ll enjoy the rest of the book when I get around to finishing it.

That concludes my June 2021 Wrap Up! I read 8 great books and look forward to what July brings!

If you have read a book mentioned here, tell me about it! I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

See you around! Happy reading!
